At the ROOT of MICF’s Content & Purpose

Dayang Lily is the heart of MICF and Chairman and it was only ten years ago that Lily made the critical decision to leave the comfort of a cushy job and ran home to her children whom she knew needed her guidance.  She wanted to provide them with a loving and nurturing environment while imparting positive values she holds dear.  Together with another mom, they co-founded ALIM Consultancy and Resources, which today is amongst the most sought out playgroup provider and revered in the industry.

Lily believes that children between the ages of 2 – 4 years old are at their most vulnerable and impressionable stages, hence the choice of caregivers are important.  She decided mothers should be given the option of playing that role.  Yet, as she researched for Islamic books for her children, the lacking of age appropriate materials for Muslim children in English are glaring.  Hence, identifying the need and the niche market.

With MICF Lily expands her purpose further.  Apart from just books, she wants to instill the need amongst parents to play their role more often with their children.  She brings to the platform the playgroup concept and highlights the influential role of moms & dads in their child’s life.  With her years of experience in creating content and publishing books (ALIMKids Bookshop), plus the ALIMKids Playgroup and ALIMkids Playschool, she is going all out to bring parents home more in order to “see” their children and develop them into healthier and more intelligent children by being apart of the learning process.

In the future Lily would like to see:

1.  More parents remember that parenthood demanded by Islam and life is not separated but runs in sync.  They don’t run parallel but co-exist.

2. Parents must actively participate in the nurturing and development of their children and find ways to effectively integrate Islam into their lives in a natural manner.

3.  More Muslim content developed in English for the Muslim child.

ALIMKids and MICF

The issue ALIMKids plans to overcome is the lack of content written in English for the Muslim child but mostly to encourage parents to actively participate in the child’s development.  Her tool of choice is playgroup.

Lily plans to showcase the many benefits of playgroup including the heightened sensory awareness, the child-parent bonding and lifelong shared learning experience.  She is determined to make her case and convert parents into believers of the importance of playgroups in nurturing and developing the Muslim in their children while creating a lifetime bond.

MICF will provide the platform and address this issue.

The expected outcome:

1.  Parents find support from each other and embrace playgroup as one of the best methods to nurture and develop children but acknowledge it could be a challenging one if they have feisty and fussy children.

2.  Parents learn that playgroups are best held with immediate caretakers like moms & dads surrounded by toys, books and children their age – hence the importance of choosing the correct provider.

3.  Parents don’t underestimate the power of learning through play.  Interactive behavior and a child’s social development are equally important as the academia.

4.  Parents understand that there is no one-blueprint and guaranteed tangible benefits because playgroups nurture the child’s social skills when they are at the most impressionable ages (2 – 4 years old).
